Bushido is "the Way of the Warrior," or the moral code the samurai followed. The basic virtues of Bushido were the following;
Rectitude
This is the strongest virtue of Bushido. It is the knowledge of what is right, and what is corrupt or greedy.
Courage
Courage is seen differently than bravery. It's defined as doing what is right, and not being afraid to face what is wrong.
Benevolence
Benevolence is mercy, sympathy, and pity. A samurai must not be merciless.
Politeness
Politeness is the showing of good manners and courtesy.
Sincerity
Sincerity is the value of being honest. This virtue also included a lack of greed, or a disdain for money.
Honor
Honor is personal dignity, and value for the profession as a samurai.
Loyalty
Loyalty is the act of remaining loyal to those a samurai works for, and loyalty to Japan.
Self-Control
Self-control is behavior based on a moral standard, rather than based on impulsivity.
